  • Planning Officer2015 - Present

    East Cambridgeshire District Council

I began my career at East Cambridgeshire District Council as a ‘Planning Assistant’ dealing with general administrative tasks, IT problems and small applications. Two months into the position, I was promoted to a Planning Officer and have since dealt with a number of major applications (British Racing School, Newmarket Town FC, several stud developments) and hundreds of minor applications and householders. I have been complimented by all members of the Planning Committee on my natural presentation skills and my enthusiasm for the job. I was awarded Employee of the Year in December 2016 following my nomination from the Committee members. I began the ECDC Planning twitter pages and have been a key part of the development of the new website and the wider ‘Transformation Programme’. At the request of the planning Manager, I delivered presentation training to the department in 2016.

  • Researcher/Presentation Assistant2013

    The Innovation Group

During a month-long internship at the Innovation Group, I worked under the supervision of Anna-Lisa Mills; the Group Sustainability Manager. I was tasked with synthesising various reports and papers into a variety of formats; to be delivered to the Innovation Group management team. I used data from the CDP along with various white papers and climate change research to produce a short presentation outlining the risks and opportunities that climate change poses to the company’s global operations and customer base, I also produced a short report to accompany the presentation with further figures and data. The second stage of the project was to produce a larger and more detailed climate change report for future use by the company. All three aspects of my work were met with very positive feedback and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of communicating climate science to a much wider, non-scientific audience.

  • Supervisor/Online ManagerMarch 2013 - March 2014

    The Lamb Inn

After working at the Lamb Inn for a matter of weeks, I was offered a position as a supervisor. This involved taking charge of the responsibilities of waiting staff on certain shifts , communicating with the kitchen on a regular basis, dealing with complaints and opening/closing the premises. This position was especially rewarding since I initially applied for a waiting staff position but within weeks was handed a set of keys to the pub. Since leaving the Lamb Inn, I have taken up the responsibility of designing and maintaining the pub’s website which was in much need of a makeover. I regularly update the content along with provide the landlord with analytic reports from GA and various marketing materials for upcoming events.
