Employment

  • Planning Officer2015 - Present

    East Cambridgeshire District Council

On a day-to-day basis I manage upwards of 60 planning applications at a time. These applications include major residential and commercial developments, minor applications of great variety including agricultural and stud operations along with householders, pre-applications, changes of use and CLEs. Since late-2017 I have been working alongside one of ECDC's senior planners on the scheme at Kennett Garden Village which comprises 500 dwellings, a new primary school, commercial development and other strategic green infrastructure.

I am pro-development in nature and actively seek to find solutions to overcome issues with applicants through clear communication and management of expectations. I undertook the largest caseload in the department alongside my part-time masters (completed 2017 - Merit), and have implemented a number of innovative projects at East Cambs. These include providing a Twitter page which tweets all validated and completed applications, and a Facebook interface. Both to improve transparency and communication with members of the public, and have been well received.

I was awarded Employee of the Year in December 2016 following my nomination from the entire Planning Committee and I was nominated once again for the award in 2017. I was formally assessed as an 'outstanding' team member in my 2017 appraisal and again at my 2018 appraisal. At the request of the Planning Manager, I delivered 'Presentation Training' to the entire department in 2016. I have also designed a spreadsheet system for organising current planning applications which has been rolled-out to members of staff within the department.

  • Researcher/Presentation Assistant2013

    The Innovation Group

During a short-term internship at IG I worked under the supervision of the Group Sustainability Manager. I was tasked with synthesising various reports and papers into a variety of formats; to be delivered to the Innovation Group management team. I produced a short presentation outlining the risks and opportunities that climate change poses to the company’s global operations and customer base. I compiled larger and more detailed climate change report for future distribution by the company.

  • Supervisor/Online ManagerMarch 2013 - March 2014

    The Lamb Inn

After working at the Lamb Inn for a matter of weeks, I was offered a position as a supervisor. This involved taking charge of the responsibilities of waiting staff on certain shifts , communicating with the kitchen on a regular basis, dealing with complaints and opening/closing the premises. This position was especially rewarding since I initially applied for a waiting staff position but within weeks was handed a set of keys to the pub. Since leaving the Lamb Inn, I have taken up the responsibility of designing and maintaining the pub’s website which was in much need of a makeover. I regularly update the content along with provide the landlord with analytic reports from GA and various marketing materials for upcoming events.
